BT-HS is proud to announce a further landmark moment of quality assurance for the company, with its confirmation of Whole Vehicle Type Approval by the The Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA).
Whole Vehicle Type Approval further rubber stamps BT-HS’ commitment to safety and quality and future growth. In order to gain Type Approval status, Conformity of Production (COP) must be gained by the VCA for the building of BT-HS’ specialised vehicle bodies.
The VCA is is an executive agency, sponsored by the Department for Transport, and is the designated UK national authority for approving new road vehicles, agricultural tractors, off-road vehicles and components.
Type Approval is required for any vehicle that has undergone a permanent transformation from the factory specification and for Commercial Vehicles is predominantly for the fitment of bodies onto Chassis Cabs due to their variance in size, weights, and dimensions.
A new Chassis Cab cannot be registered unless it is fitted with a Type Approved Body or Conversion and a Certificate of Conformity (COC).
BT-HS: Where safety and quality meet
Established in 2018, BT-HS has always been driven by a desire to provide vehicles and products that are built and developed on the foundations of safety and quality.
With this in mind, the business quickly became accredited with ISO9001:2015 and ISO45001:2015 to provide an assurance to customers that they could also be confident in the company’s quality and safety standards, as well as its products.
VCA Type Approval: What does it mean moving forward?
Alex Donkin, BT-HS Technical Director, and the man tasked with achieving this milestone explains:
“Simply put, we and our clients no longer have to rely on third parties to manufacture the major part of the vehicle bodies. Simplicity of communications increases – as we’re now the sole port of call for all of the vehicle build process. This allows us to provide more accurate updates and progress reports to our customers. Additionally, there will be efficiency of service benefits, with no third-party body builder required as part of our build process and customer’s journey, our customers can now rely solely on us – the company that they and the people they know trust.”
Alex also commented:
“It’s hugely significant for BT-HS holding this VCA approval, It positions us in the UK as a vehicle converter and supplier that is seeing its builds and conversions from the very first step taken to the very last – meaning we have complete control when it comes to quality and safety – the two pillars of our entire operation.”
MD Phil Glaiser added:
“The completion of our Type approval is a massive milestone for BT-HS and our commitment to future progression. It signifies the next stage in our company’s growth and investment commitment. As a company we now stand in a unique position in the UK as a specialised vehicle supplier, being one that can build its own vehicles from bumper to bumper. Most, if not all of our direct competitors subcontract their bodies to third party body builders, while this is a suitable acquiring method our approach gives our customers the confidence that BT-HS built the entire vehicle for them. Providing them an ‘in house’ feel throughout the process of acquiring a new vehicle.
“Alex’s work has been extremely diligent as he’s dedicated himself to bringing us to this landmark point. I’d like to thank him for his excellent work. We now look forward to bringing further safety critical products to our customer base, as well as an even more efficient service as we work with our clients throughout the entire vehicle build process.”
